Landscape is a US landscape architecture studio working on civic ground, campuses and river corridors. We survey soil, water and light before we draw, specify regional native planting, and stay on site through five years of establishment.

How we work
We survey the ground before we draw a line
Most landscapes fail for reasons that were visible on day one: the wrong soil, water arriving faster than the design assumed, a maintenance load nobody costed. We start with measurement, so the drawing answers the site rather than the mood board.
- An artist draws it before a saw touches itRick Lobdell took a BA in fine art and philosophy and an MFA in painting before he ever picked up a grinder. Every design starts as a drawing, scaled to your slab and to the way the space is actually used, which is why the work does not look like a catalogue pattern dropped onto concrete.
- We pour our own concreteWe run a concrete pouring crew in house rather than subcontracting it out. That matters because the surface underneath decides what the finish can do. When we control the pour, we know the slab is right before any design goes onto it, and there is nobody to point at if it is not.
- We look at the site before we price itWe do not quote decorative concrete over the phone, and we will not pretend otherwise. The condition of your existing concrete changes the price and the method more than the square footage does. The visit is free, takes about an hour, and you get a straight answer about what the slab will and will not take.

Measured outcomes
Every project leaves with a monitoring plan, and we report against it annually. That means gallons retained, acres under stewardship, survival rates at year three — numbers a board can read.
It also means we find out when something is not working while there is still time to fix it. Establishment is the part of a landscape most studios are not there for.
