The venue wanted the floor to be part of the evening, not the thing you walk over on the way to your seat.

This was a large commercial interior with a lot of continuous concrete and a lot of foot traffic, which is exactly the situation decorative concrete is built for. Carpet would have worn through in the walkways within a few seasons. Tile would have cracked along the joints. The slab was already there, already sound, and already the right surface to work on.

What we did

The whole area was laid out by hand before anything was cut, so the pattern would run continuously from the entrance through the main floor and up the staircase rather than restarting at every threshold. We engraved the design into the cured slab, then stained it in stages to build depth and shadow, and finished with a commercial-grade sealer rated for the traffic a venue takes on a full house.

Why it holds up

Because the design is cut into the concrete rather than laid on top of it, there is nothing to lift, curl or come loose at the edges. Cleaning is a mop. When the sealer eventually wears in the busiest walkways, it is re-coated without touching the artwork underneath.
